Dorris Intermediate School ISS monitor Ryan Toon was recognized today as April 2026 Kahok Educator of the Month. 

The award was presented by DIS Principal Kevin Stirnaman and local Benjamin F. Edwards financial advisor Jason Rehg. 

In his nomination of Mr. Toon, Mr. Stirnaman wrote:

"While his official title is ISS Monitor, Mr. Toon’s impact reaches far beyond a single role. He is truly the Swiss Army knife of DIS, stepping in wherever he’s needed most. On any given day, you might find him supporting silent reading time, supervising recess, or assisting in classrooms to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Mr. Toon is also a key member of our SEL and PBIS check-in/check-out team, starting students’ days with positivity and encouragement. He regularly works with students who need a moment to reset, helping them return to class ready to succeed and make the most of their day.

Beyond our school walls, Mr. Toon has made a meaningful impact by sharing his personal story with the National Kidney Foundation, speaking about living organ donation and inspiring others through his experience.

Mr. Toon is a truly deserving recipient of the April Staff Member of the Month award. We are incredibly proud to have him as part of our T-Bird family."
