KAHOKstrong is a student-based organization that was created to assist students, staff, and families in the Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 community during times of tragedy.
The group started in 2013 to help one of our own teachers who was battling cancer. Though we tragically lost this faculty member after her short battle with cancer, CHS Teachers Jacob Post and Toni Geisen decided to keep the organization in place to assist others in our school community.
KAHOKstrong has raised money for the sole purpose of helping people in our school district during times of tragedy. We have been incredibly fortunate to receive many donations and have well-supported fundraisers that allow us to help others. To date, we have donated nearly $100,000 back to our district/community in a variety of ways.
KAHOKstrong created two memorial scholarships in honor of Fred Fierce (CHS assistant and coach who lost his battle against cancer) and Ryan & Sarah Stolcis (CMS & CHS teachers, respectively, who were married and both passed away from cancer within a year of each other). KAHOKstrong is proud to also offer the Kelley Liljegren Scholarship (Kelley was a CHS math teacher who lost her long-fought battle against cancer) which is a $4,000 scholarship. All of these scholarships are awarded to CHS seniors at the end of the school year.
In addition to these scholarships, each year, KAHOKstrong purchases Christmas gifts for Unit 10 families students/families who are in need to help provide their children with gifts to open on Christmas day. Throughout the school year, KAHOKstrong is the first group in the CUSD 10 community to reach out to families who experience catastrophic events or need. KAHOKstrong uses their resources and takes the lead in soliciting funds to assist these families. Funds designated to these families are passed totally and directly to them.
If you have/know of a student(s) or family in the CUSD 10 community that is in need of assistance, please reach out to a classroom teacher, school social worker, building principal or the Kahok Communty Project. Whether it’s the need for a new backpack or shoes, help with medical bills, assistance during emergency family situations, etc., KAHOKStrong and the Kahok Community Project try to help in any way we can. The only criteria is the person/situation we are assisting must be a CUSD 10 student, family of student or employee.
KAHOKstrong holds fundraisers throughout the year that include: Glow Bingo (January), 5K Runs, Pink Out athletic events and KAHOKstrong Gear apparel sales.
Donations can be made to KAHOKstrong at any time during the year.
