Follow-up to Test of CUSD 10 Emergency Communication System

Posted Date: 11/01/24 (3:00 PM)

Last Friday, we conducted a test of the Collinsville Community Unit School District #10 emergency communication system.

This type of urgent alert is how you will receive an important message if there is an emergency situation, e-learning day, or school cancellation in our school district.

If you did not receive a phone call, email, text and app alert: please check Skyward Family Access to see if your contact information is up-to-date and correct it.  If your information is current and you did not receive notifications, check with your child's school for assistance in troubleshooting.

Staff members should make sure their contact information on-file with the district is up-to-date.

ADD SCHOOL DISTRICT PHONE NUMBER TO YOUR CONTACTS:

During last week's test, we learned many families did not recognize the origin of the phone call announcement they received.

To fix this issue, we are asking ALL families to save "Collinsville Community Unit School District #10" in their phone contacts, along with the district's main number:
618-346-6350

By doing this, urgent calls (including e-learning, weather and emergency announcements) will be clearly identified when you receive them.

Keep in mind, urgent emergency announcements override your communication preferences.  In the event of an emergency, messages are automatically sent by text, email, phone call and ParentSquare app notification.

USE OF THE EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION SYSTEM:

School cancellation or E-Learning due to weather
The urgent announcement would include this information:

  • When weather conditions make travel hazardous, CUSD 10 could declare an E-Learning Day, meaning students will learn remotely from home, based on expectations determined by their schools/teachers.
  •  A complete school closure due to weather could be issued if power outages or other circumstances make remote learning difficult or impossible.
 School crisis/emergency situation
  • Following an initial emergency notification, you would receive additional information and updates as they become available.
  • Watch for OFFICIAL Emergency Announcements - Emergency announcements for families will be relayed via the district website, social media and ParentSquare communications platform.  In addition, situation updates may be provided by first responders and relayed on local media. PLEASE DO NOT REACT TO RUMORS OR INFORMATION THAT DOES NOT COME DIRECTLY FROM OFFICIAL SOURCES.
  • To prepare for an actual emergency situation and learn more about CUSD 10's crisis procedures, please review the district website's CRISIS/EMERGENCY INFORMATION page.
