October 4, 2024 Update for Families from Superintendent Dr. Skertich

Posted Date: 10/04/24 (10:00 AM)

Kahok Families,

October has arrived!  That means Parent/Teacher Conferences are right around the corner.  Please schedule a time to discuss your child’s progress, both academically and socially, on Thursday, October   24th from noon until 8:00 p.m. or Friday, October 25th from 7:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m..

On September 23rd our district was notified that Maryville Elementary was named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School for exemplary academic performance.  Maryville is one of only 18 schools in the State of Illinois to receive this honor. The award is a tremendous accomplishment and speaks to the hard work and dedication of students, faculty, staff, families, administration and the community.  Congratulations and well deserved!

Next week kicks off Collinsville High School Homecoming 2024 events.  There will be activities at CHS all week long, but I would like to highlight a few events that are great for families and students of all ages:

Mr. Homecoming on Wednesday, October 9th at 7:00 p.m.
Homecoming Parade on Thursday, October 10th at 4:30 p.m.
Homecoming Football Game on Friday, October 11th at 7:00 p.m.

At the end of October, annual summative designations will be provided by the Illinois State Board of Education for each school in the district.  These designations help families and communities understand how well schools are serving all students.  Results are based on student growth and proficiency in math and English Language Arts, attendance, school climate surveys and the graduation rate (if applicable).  The endeavors of students, families and educators are integral to the success of each student, all of our schools and our district as a whole.  We appreciate the work by our entire Kahok Family to positively impact our students and school district.  It truly takes a team effort!

Finally, on the afternoon of Friday, October 25, the district will conduct a TEST of our emergency communication system. This will be done when school is not in session.  The district-wide notification will provide an opportunity to confirm all families receive an urgent communication, and allow everyone to experience a sample emergency message.  If you do not receive a message on the 25th, please contact your child’s (children’s) respective school(s), update your contact information (emails, phone numbers, etc.) and seek assistance on downloading the ParentSquare app.

We appreciate your constant dedication to our students.  Don’t forget to wear your purple and show your Kahok Pride!
